Videx Data Collectors in Agriculture

Videx data collectors are rugged and well suited to many agricultural applications. Here are just two examples of how Videx readers streamline agricultural activities, adding accuracy and accountability.

Farm Labor Tracking

On farms all over the world, Videx data collectors are helping to make sure farm laborers are getting paid what they are due. A data collector either touches an iButton or reads a bar code on the workers’ ID when they bring their bushels to be dumped. The employees’ ID and the date and time are stored in the Videx device. Later the data is transferred to the corporate office and imported into their payroll program for accurate and efficient payroll processing.

Cotton Boll Weevil Control

The cotton boll weevil used to cost the U.S. agricultural industry millions of dollars a year due to crop damage. This pest has been virtually eradicated due in part to Videx data collectors. USDA employees distributed traps all over the cotton farming landscape. A trap inspector would inspect the traps, count the boll weevils, then read the bar code on the trap and enter the number of boll weevils into the reader. This remotely collected data would then be uploaded to the central computer so that crop dusting airplanes could be dispatched to just the right areas. Although these traps are still being used today, they are most often empty.
